When birding is like fishing...

That osprey nest in Marymoor is just about perfectly positioned to get great shots like the one below.  I was only there 15 minutes tonight before getting this shot.



The first time I saw an osprey catch a fish I thought I saw the osprey almost drop the fish in mid-air.  What I was actually seeing was the osprey repositioning the fish in mid-air to be facing forward head first.  Makes the fish more aerodynamic for the flight.

I'm decent at identifying several local birds, but I have no idea what kind of fish that is.  Any guesses?

And, after some quick reading on the web, it's now clear why the ospreys were going after the bald eagle yesterday: bald eagles are one of the few predators of osprey, especially when they're young.
