Getting what we deserve
From the site http://www.electoral-vote.com/, which rolls up all the individual state polls into one big electoral map...
For the first time this year John McCain has taken the lead in the electoral college, albeit by 2 EVs. ... Today might later be remembered as the beginning of the end for Obama, or just a blip.
And today might be the day that I finally stop being an optimist about our country. I cannot believe so many people are falling for this strategy:
1) Say whatever people want to hear, and whatever you want the truth to be.
2) When the press calls you on your contradictions and outright lies, call them "liberal" and "elite".
3) Repeat.
If this country elects McCain, we'll get exactly what we deserve. We deserve our current shaky economy. We deserve the Irag war that's dragging on forever with all it's horrors. We deserve millions of people who have lost their homes or who are behind in the mortgage payments. We deserve $4 gasoline. We had chances in 2000 and 2004 to say "no" and choose another direction, and we as a country didn't take it.
And now we have another choice here in 2008. If we fall for the same strategies that gave us Bush twice and we elect McCain, believing we'll get "change", then shame on us. And we'll get exactly what we deserve.

Liberal Elitist!!
(just kidding...)
I too am amazed at the bounce McCain is getting. However, I heard an analyst say that when Mondale selected Ferraro, that was the only time in the campaign that they ever felt close to having a chance in 1984. Maybe the novelty of Palin will wear off?
I am starting to despair a bit, but I have to hope that Obama pulls one out in the debates, and that his voter registration drive pays off in places like Ohio and Virginia.
BTW, great electoral vote website. I follow that one every day and post the new tallies in my classroom.

I'm holding out hope too that the Palin bounce will fade away in 1-2 weeks, but I'm still stuck with this sour taste in my mouth that people actually fell for it all in the first place.
Great to hear you're using that electoral vote web site in the classroom! I wonder why the national media focus so much on national polls instead of something like the electoral vote web site.
